The Land Show

August 13th, 2016

This week on The Land Show Dave talks with Brian Lucas, Ag Science teacher, FFA (Future Farmers of America) Advisor and coach at Thorsby High School in Chilton County. Brian and Dave talk about how important FFA is in introducing young people to farming and rural life skills that will help them be the future leaders in rural America. Thorsby is a 2A school but is a statewide powerhouse in FFA competitions.  There are over 200 FFA teams around the state that compete in statewide competitions. Brian shares how Thorsby FFA won 4 state titles in four different areas and their land judging team will be going to Oklahoma to compete in the National Championships.

Jonathan Goode shares about a great fruit tasting event that he attended at the Auburn Extension service research center in Chilton County and how important the cooperative extension service is to our state.

Russ Walters got us up to speed on current farm commodity prices and Dave was happy to see cotton prices moving in a positive direction.

Dave also chats with George Mann and Coach Pat Dye at Coach Dye’s Crooked Oaks Farm in Macon County.  Hear all the great things going on at Crooked Oaks; guided quail hunts, corporate retreats, family outings and weddings which have been a big hit in Coach Dye’s beautiful barn/event center.

To wrap up the show, Dave responds to an e-mail from a man who recently moved to Birmingham asking if we have any trout waters in Alabama? Join us for the answer to this question and more on this weeks episode of The Land Show.
